“How Great is Our God” was the song blasting in our ears as we belted out the lyrics with tears of anguish baptizing our faces. We chose to worship God from the depths of our shattered hearts as we drove home from the hospital that May afternoon in 2008. We’d just learned that our baby’s heart had stopped in my 10th week of pregnancy. Our faith was battered, but we dug up the strength to cry out, ‘God we trust YOU….YOU are GOOD in spite of this! YOU are faithful and YOU will keep your promise!’
Three years later on a cool October afternoon, we raised our voices to the same song. But this time, as we traveled the same road, we wept tears of indescribable joy. In the backseat, oblivious to the miracle she is, our baby girl Nia slept like an angel. I didn’t know it at the time, but not only was it the beginning of my life as a mother, it was also the birth of my mission to inspire, empower and educate women around the world to overcome fibroids and infertility.
It can feel impossible to see beauty when you’re blinded with pain and your hope has been singed to ashes. The road to my miracle baby was a 10-year battle, but it was the very process that gave birth to my book HOPE BEYOND FIBROIDS: Stories of Miracle Babies & the Journey to Motherhood and my purpose as a fibroids and fertility coach, speaker and fibroids awareness advocate.
Something beautiful can emerge from your nightmare. Here are few things to focus on in your darkest moments, so that you can push past hopelessness:
1. God Is Good: There is purpose in our pain. His plans for us are beyond good, they are better and bigger than what our limited minds imagine. He assures us of this where He declares, “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” The story He’s writing with your journey will be “exceedingly, abundantly above all you can ask, think or imagine.” I never envisioned myself writing these words to inspire you today. But where my dream of motherhood ended, God’s plan for my life’s purpose only began!
2. God Is Wise: He knows how to get us to that place of rich blessing and His process (way) is best. Often, the path He leads us down is not the one we would choose. Your character and purpose is being chiseled in between the rock and hard place of your situation and though it may feel like a circuitous—at times even tortuous—route to your destiny, it’s essential to your assignment. Are you longing is to be a mother? God’s plan for you may be a biological birth, BUT, keep your heart and mind open to the possibility that it could also be a miracle that may not share your DNA.
3. God Is Powerful: He not only wants the best for us—He has the power to do it! He’s omnipotent—all-powerful. He’s the God of the universe and your miracle is already done in His book. “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible!”
I cannot imagine what my life would be like today if I’d allowed the pain of my process to stop my pursuit of motherhood. I would be honored to support you through your journey, which starts with determining if you “HIRED” the right gynecologist! Click to download your free guide, “When to FIRE YOUR GYN!”
