Can you believe it’s been 20 years since the release of Missy Elliott’s debut album, Supa Dupa Fly?!
Hip-hop artist Missy Elliott is celebrating the anniversary of the album by doing a vinyl reissue. The album will be re-released on standard black vinyl this summer and it will also be available on yellow vinyl at Vinyl Me, Please.
The Supa Dupa Fly reissue is the first of Atlantic Records’ vinyl reissue campaign for Elliott, whose incredible music career has spanned three decades and produced six chart-topping albums.
The release of Elliott’s Supa Dupa Fly, which debuted at No.3 on the Billboard 200 charts in 1997, made her the highest charting female rapper at the time. The album produced a variety of hits including “Sock It 2 Me” and “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly).”
Atlantic’s campaign will end in November with the 15th anniversary reissue of Elliott’s 2002 Under Construction album. After that album, Elliott took a hiatus from the music industry. She returned in 2015 with her surprise performance during Katy Perry’s set at Super Bowl XLIX and her single “WTF (Where They From)” featuring Pharrell Williams, and ever since, Elliott has been a music fixture like she never left.
