After a few false alarms, Missy Elliott is finally on-schedule to release her new album, “Block Party,” today. Fans are surely ready to hear something new from the Virginia native, especially considering how quiet she’s been in the five years since her last album, “The Cookout.”
Though it seems like just yesterday, it was actually 13 years ago that Missy Elliott blessed the world with her debut album, “Supa Dupa Fly,” led by the monster-hit single and mold-breaking video, “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly).” In the in-between time, she’s sold millions of records, racked up Grammy, American Music and MTV Video Music awards and even wrote and produced hits for artists ranging from Fantasia, Monica and Keyshia Cole to Ciara and the late singer/actress, Aaliyah. Oh, and just last month, “Rolling Stone” named her 2002 album, “Under Construction,” as one of the best albums of the decade.
