“We have probable cause to file criminal charges.”
Those were the words many have been waiting to hear from Baltimore State Attorney Marilyn Mosby who announced this morning that six arresting officers have been charged in the death of Freddie Gray, which has been ruled a homicide.
At the 2:58 mark of the video, Mosby detailed the events that led to Gray’s arrest, injuries and death including Gray’s surrender, the finding of the legal knife, and Gray being restrained and loaded in the Baltimore Police Department wagon.
“No crime had been committed by Mr. Gray,” Mosby stated and added that Gray requested medical attention several times and was ignored by the arresting officers.
“The manner of death, deemed a homicide by the Maryland state medical examiner, is believed to be the result of a fatal injury that occurred while Mr. Gray was unrestrained by a seatbelt in custody of the Baltimore Police Department wagon,” she said.
At the 11:05 mark Mosby lists the numerous charges—including second-degree murder, manslaughter and criminal negligence—facing the six arresting officers.
