President Barack Obama visited his campaign headquarters in Chicago the morning after he won re-election to thank his staff for their hard work. In the clip, the president wipes tears from his face as he calls his youthful staff the source of his strength and inspiration.
“What you guys have accomplished will go on in the annals of history and they will read about it and they’ll marvel about it,” he said, sharing his experiences as a 25-year-old poltical organizer wanting to make a difference, just like many of them.
“It’s not that you guys remind me of myself, it’s the fact that you are so much better than I was in so many ways,” he said. “You’re smarter, you’re better organized, you’re more effective.”
“The most important thing you need to know is that your journey’s just beginning,” he added. “You are just going to do great things, and even before last night’s results that’s why I felt like the work I have done in this office has come full circle because what you guys have done means that the work that I am doing is important.”
“I am really proud of all of that,” he said, holding back tears. “I am really proud of all of you.”
