On January 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger tragically exploded as it took flight, killing all seven crew members aboard.
Among the courageous astronauts aboard was Mission Specialist Ronald Erwin McNair from Lake City, South Carolina.
On this anniversary, McNair’s brother Carl joined forces with the nonprofit organization StoryCorps to remember his brave brother by retelling a small tale of Ronald going against the odds to check out books at a segregated library and developing his interests in space and the beyond.
Check out the animated clip in memory of Ronald McNair.
