Today is the day Robin Roberts has been waiting for. She will finally receive her bone marrow transplant.
The ABC anchor recorded a short but sweet video from her hospital room, where she’s been for the last 11 days receiving intense chemotherapy. “This journey is as much about the mind as it is the body. Your thoughts… are so powerful. You’ve got to change the way you think in order to change the way you feel” she said wearing a fuchsia Nike cap and a navy blue sweatshirt.
Before signing off, Roberts thanked everyone for their love and support. “And let me just say this lastly, I feel the love and I thank you for it. Thank you.”
According to People, many transplant recipients refer to their transplant day as their new birthday. Roberts’ physician, Dr. Gail Roboz said, “Medically speaking, she is doing fantastic.” But he thinks she misses her mother, Lucimarian Tolliver Roberts, who died August 30. In a further update on Roberts’ health, Dr. Roboz said sitting up in bed and reading emails is taxing for her.
