Entertainment Tonight went on the set of the Whitney Houston biopic to get a sneak peek of the behind-the-scenes action. ET spoke with Angela Bassett, the film’s director, about all the controversy—from Whitney’s daughter Bobbi Kristina’s objection to not getting to play her mother in the film, to the fact that singer Deborah Cox will overdub Whitney’s vocals.
“I can understand it,” said Bassett, commenting on Bobbi K. “She adores her mother, and in this process I lost my mother (Bassett lost her mother in June) as well, so I get it and I love Bobbi Kristina.
Lead Yaya Dacosta says she’s tuned out all the criticism. “I kinda shut off all social media because I didn’t wanna be distracted,” she said.
The movie premieres next year on Lifetime.
