Naomi Campbell wants you to know that she did not get where she is by posting Instagram selfies!
The supermodel appeared on The Meredith Vieira Show on Friday, where she shared her feelings toward today’s wave of, what Vieira called, “Instagirls,” referring to the aspiring models who use social media to get noticed.
“I mean, good luck to them,” Campbell said. “I just feel like my generation of women—like Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Claudia—we had to earn our stripes and take our stepping stones to get to where we have gotten to accomplish to what we have achieved to this date.”
Vieira, pointing out that those “Instagirls” have captured the attention of Vogue, asked if Campbell is offended that this new generation doesn’t have to put in the same amount of work.
“I kind of feel like, ‘My God, we’ve worked so hard, and we are still working at it,'” she admitted. “Then it just comes like that for them, but I sometimes believe easy come, easy go. I am actually grateful for the way I had my career. I wouldn’t want it any other way. So that for them, this is me.”
