Hip Hop icon Nas and rising film director Steven Caple Jr are bringing the story of Black youth in Cleveland to life through the eyes of their new film The Land.
Executive produced by Nas himself, the movie takes viewers on the journey of four high school friends with dreams of perfecting their skateboarding skills in hopes of one day taking their aspirations beyond the only world they’ve known. Talented filmmaker Steven Caple Jr. shines in his directorial debut with a raw narrative that sees the curious teens navigate their way through the often grim realities of life in one of America’s most overlooked, yet still most resilient, cities as they learn the hard way that costly decisions can have lifelong consequences. The film also features cast appearances from Erykah Badu and The Wire star Michael K. Williams.
We caught up with Nas, Steven and a few other familiar faces at the NYC premiere of The Land earlier this week to get the inside scoop on how the film came together. Check out red carpet chats in the video below.
