Authorities confirmed Monday afternoon that the body discovered earlier that morning in Lake Piru, California was indeed Glee star Naya Rivera.
Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub said during a press conference that the actress was discovered in the northeast part of the lake. Her body was apparently near the water’s surface.
“We are confident the body we found is that of Naya Rivera,” Ayub said, noting “there is no indication of foul play or that this was a suicide.”
Rivera’s remains will be taken to the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s office to undergo an autopsy along with additional identification.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department had been on an intense search since her 4-year-old son was discovered alone on a boat on July 8.
Authorities said last Thursday they believed Rivera had drowned in the lake. The actress’s son told investigators that he and his mother went swimming. The 4-year-old Josey Hollis Dorsey claimed he got back on the boat, but “his mom never made it out of the water,” Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt. Kevin Donoghue said.
Rivera is best known for portraying Santana Lopez on Fox’s Glee from 2009 to 2015.
