NeNe Leakes has a reason to rejoice this season. The Real Housewives of Atlanta diva revealed Monday that her husband Gregg Leakes is now cancer free.
“Look at God! We are overjoyed to say we saw the doctors for the results of Gregg’s pet scan he took last week! Tests show, wait for It…..WE ARE CANCER FREE!!! Yes God!” NeNe wrote in a caption on Instagram.
The 51-year old reality star shared a photograph of Gregg smiling, while holding up a sign with the words written: “No cancer found! Praise God.”
Gregg, who shared the same photo on his own account, went on to thank his wife for “being there for me” even when “it wasn’t easy.”
The good news comes after Gregg, 63, completed six months of chemotherapy to battle stage three colon cancer.
In November, NeNe said it was challenging to care for her husband, with whom she shares a 20-year-old son Brentt along with six other adult children from previous relationships.
“It’s very, very hard to be a caretaker,” she told People. “People call and they say, ‘How’s Gregg doing?’ and I want to throw the phone and say, ‘How the f-ck am I doing? I’m going crazy over here, Gregg is wearing me out!’ I am not good at this sh-t!”
NeNe also shared how the illness has put a strain on her marriage.
“I feel like that day, I lost my husband. Our whole dynamic changed. Sometimes I forget that he’s sick and I need to remind myself because he’s so on the edge. He’s not nice, but he can’t help it,” she explained.
Gregg publicly apologized to NeNe for their problems a few months later.
“I’m tired of hurting my wife who is only trying to take good care of me and wants only the best for me too. She deserves much more for her hard efforts and tireless hours spent on me,” he shared on Instagram back in January. “I pray to God to get it together…she’s done NO wrong…this is ALL on me. Cancer will change your life.”
The couple was married for 14 years before separating in 2011. They remarried in 2013 in a ceremony that aired on The Real Housewives of Atlanta spinoff special, I Dream of NeNe: The Wedding.
