Investigators are reportedly looking into a newly-surfaced tape that allegedly shows R. Kelly having sex with an underage girl.
CNN reports that lawyer Michael Avenatti handed the tape to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in Chicago last weekend.
Avenatti, who is representing the man who handed over the tape, told CNN, “My client knows the identity of the girl and R. Kelly. He identified the two of them on the videotape. He worked for and has known R. Kelly for decades and he met the girl on a number of occasions.”
Those who have seen the 42-minute VHS tape claim that it features a man who looks like Kelly performing sexual acts on a young girl.
CNN also claims that in the video, both the man and the girl refer to her genitalia as “14-year-old p—y.” Later, the man requests that the girl urinate, which she does, before he urinates on her.
Still, Tandra R. Simonton, chief communications officer for the State’s Attorney’s Office, told CNN, “We cannot confirm or deny an investigation.”
The newly-surfaced tape comes after numerous women came forward for Lifetime’s Surviving R. Kelly, which aired in January.
The docuseries featured disturbing details from women who survived alleged sexual abuse at the hands of the singer and shocking claims about Kelly’s secret marriage to late singer Aaliyah.
Since the series aired, Kelly and those associated with him have come under intense scrutiny although they continuously deny the claims, with Kelly’s lawyer calling the docuseries “another round of stories” that were created “to fill reality TV time.”
Sony and RCA have since dropped the singer and Georgia has opened an investigation after the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office reached out to a number of women involved with the series.
