Nick Cannon said Monday that Wendy Williams is in good spirits as she continues to fight Graves’ disease. The Cannon’s Class host is stepping in at The Wendy Williams Show this week as Williams continues to recover.
Thankfully for fans who are missing the daytime diva, Cannon shared that he spoke with Williams by phone “and honestly she sounded amazing y’all,” he told her studio audience. “We jumped on the phone and first thing she said: ‘Nick Cannon, how you doing?’ Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect at first. But her spirit was so big, it was so amazing.”
Cannon also assured Williams’ loyal audience that her marriage was intact despite what they may have heard. Stories of divorce, financial infidelity, and even physical violence have been swirling on social media and beyond.
The TV personality noted that he spoke with Williams’ “whole family and [Williams] said she wanted to speak as a family unit…The love and the passion is still there ’cause that’s what you need in times like this is your family to stick together with you.”
Cannon, who suffers from lupus, said he definitely relates to Williams’ struggles with her health. He said she acknowledged fans curiosities, but had to focus on her health right now.
“And she knows that there’s probably a lot questions that haven’t been answered and stuff. But as someone who also deals with an autoimmune condition — I was diagnosed with lupus before — I know when you go through these things and these flair-ups and stuff, you never know,” he said. “It’s day by day, y’all. You know, you one day could be a strong day and the next day you can’t even get out of bed.”
“She said there can be negativity out there and she hears the things about people talking about her family unit and what’s going on and she was like, ‘You know what, we don’t want to bring that negative energy when you’re trying to heal,'” Cannon said.
Cannon said in classic Williams, she told him to enjoy himself, but not to get too comfortable because she would be returning to claim her purple chair.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Williams as she recovers.
