Nicki Minaj is working to help those affected in her native home of Trinidad and Tobago after the island nation was hit last week by heavy rainfall that left serious damage.
Island residents suffered widespread flooding following torrential rains that lasted for four days last week, according to local news reports. Minaj, who was born in Trinidad, announced that she had plans to get involved in the flood relief efforts.
“Trinidad, I am working on getting many different resources to you now,” she said in a tweet on Tuesday.
“Fay-Ann & I have been communicating non stop,” she continued, referring to the wife of popular Soca artist Ian “Bunji Garlin” Alvarez. “I will let you know exactly who I’m donating the funds to & hope to be with you very soon. I Love you. We will get through this.”
Alvarez and Minaj connected after he posted a video of the devastation that Minaj later reposted on her Instagram.
“Right now, [the goal] is to get the resources to those who need it,” Alvarez told The Trinidad Daily Express, adding that they are approximately 90 percent complete with the process.
Our prayers go out to the whole island as they continue relief efforts.
