President Barack Obama spent New Year’s Eve quietly, enjoying time with his family at a Hawaii beach.
The president started his day with a workout at a military base close to his Hawaiian vacation home. Afterwards, First Lady Michelle Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha joined him for a day of snorkeling. The president then went to get shave ice, a favorite treat he makes a stop for on annual trips back to his home state.
Obama arrived in Hawaii over a week ago and has been keeping a low-profile. He’s been seen golfing and hiking while there.
On the way back to his vacation home, he greeted a crowd of people saying, “I hope you guys have a great 2014.”
The White House said Obama stayed home Tuesday night and rang in the new year with family and friends.
