When we say “no” to hate, we can say “yes” to love and equality. That’s why Empire star Taraji P. Henson has joined forces with NOH8 (“no hate”) to end hate, violence and discrimination against the LGBT community.
NOH8 is a non-profit organization that promotes marriage, gender and human equality. The cast of Empire is participating in the campaign to bring awareness the rights of the LGBT community and end homophobia worldwide.
“A lot of people can be homophobic, I feel,” Show creator, Lee Daniels, told Out magazine. “The content opens you up. Music is universal. Not just from a racial perspective but also a sexual perspective.”
Daniels, who is openly gay, has shared his vision that Empire will help “blow the lid off” of homophobia in the Black community. The show tells the story of Jamal (Jussie Smollett), who struggles with pursuing a public career, pleasing his family and coming to terms with his sexuality. See more of Jamal’s story in the clip below and tune into Empire tonight at 9pm EST.
