President Obama continues to be the center of many jokes for a pair of jeans he wore to throw the first pitch at the 2009 MLB All-Star Game, but the president is determined to defend his style.
“I’ve been unfairly maligned about my jeans,” Obama joked Thursday on the radio show, “On Air with Ryan Seacrest.”
The subject came about after the presidents’ recent visit to the GAP in New York City to support the brand’s decision to raise employee wages. The president bought several items for First Lady Michelle Obama and their children, but didn’t buy anything for himself.
“The truth is, generally I look very sharp in jeans,” said Obama. “There was one episode like four years ago in which I was wearing some loose jeans mainly because I was out on the pitcher’s mound, and I didn’t want to feel confined while I was pitching and I think I’ve paid my penance for that. I got whacked pretty good. Since that time, my jeans fit very well.”
