In a historic announcement in an interview with ABC News‘ Robin Roberts, President Obama declared his support for same-sex marriage amidst pressure from gay rights advocates.
“I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married,” the President told Roberts. His remarks come days after Vice-President Joe Biden said he felt “absolutely comfortable” with gay marriage, causing many to wonder how Obama stood on the issue.
President Obama is the first sitting commander in chief to openly support gay marriage.
