ESSENCE Festival headliner, Queen Latifah is working on a new project, and it promises to be hilarious.
According to Variety, Latifah and her Flavor Unit Entertainment partner, Shakim Compere, will executive produce a new docu-series titled, Friends in Strange Places. Each episode will let viewers tag along while a female comedian and her famous friends hit some of the world’s most interesting locales.
Latifah, who starred in last year’s breakout comedy Girls Trip, said she was excited to highlight the work of brilliant and funny women.
“There are so many funny, brilliant women in this industry, and – with plenty of successful male-driven travel series out there – a comedic docu-series about sisterhood and adventure is just the type of uncharted territory we want to plant our flag in,” Latifah said. “I’m so excited to develop a show that not only elevates and highlights female comedians but also brings them together for an amazing time that will also be a trip for viewers.”
In addition to Latifah, Friends In Strange Places will also be executive produced by Allison Mandell Hudson, Randi Michel, and Chris Grant and Drew Buckley for Electus.
Grant and Buckley, who are known for producing unscripted content, praised Queen Latifah and the upcoming show.
“This creative provides a hilarious, unique and personal look at the power of female friendships, and we can’t imagine a more ideal partner, and consummate dynamo, than Queen Latifah and her incredible team at Flavor Unit,” the creative duo said. “We’re excited to take out to the marketplace a project that brings such a fresh perspective.”
While there’s been no word just yet on which comedians will participate in the show, with Queen Latifah at the helm, we know it’s going to be a good time.
