R. Kelly was arrested on federal sex charges Thursday night.
The disgraced singer was arrested in Chicago five months after being released on bail for additional sex abuse charges.
NBC New York reports that Homeland Security Investigation agents and NYPD Public Safety Task Force officials arrested Kelly Thursday evening after the singer stepped out to walk his dog.
Separate federal indictments were filed in both Chicago and Brooklyn, including a 13-count indictment that includes child pornography charges, enticement of a minor, and obstruction of justice.
Steve Greenberg, an attorney for Kelly, confirmed the arrest and stated, “The conduct alleged appears to largely be the same as the conduct previously alleged against Mr. Kelly in his current State indictment and his former State charges that he was acquitted of. Most, if not all of the conduct alleged, is decades old.”
The singer is expected to appear in a Chicago court Friday. It is also likely that he will be brought to New York to face additional charges, which federal authorities will reportedly reveal details on Friday.
A spokesperson for Homeland Security Investigations and the NYPD have yet to comment on the arrest.
Kelly is currently being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago.
