Regina King’s golden statuette is just one sign of her commitment to success. The Oscar-winning actress, producer, and director said that she’s so preoccupied with her goals, she doesn’t think of the accomplishment right away.
“I am reminded every time when someone reminds me,” King, who is too consumed with keeping her career on track to focus on congratulating herself, told Shondaland recently.
“For me, it’s all systems go, and always has been. There was never a time during awards season when the momentum had stopped,” she affirmed.
“And that’s important, when you dial it down to the nuts and bolts of it all, you hope that the hardware creates more opportunities for everyone,” she added.
King plans on creating those opportunities through her production company, a venture that will be hiring many more women due to a vow the actress made while accepting one of her many awards for her role in If Beale Street Could Talk.
Although King admitted that the Oscar didn’t change the way she looks at her career, the actress did reveal where she keeps it.
“It’s in my office! It sits behind me, right behind my head and my desk,” she sad.
For her, the win is a tool and not a token.
“Hopefully it gets to propel all those thoughts and ideas, things that we are working towards, to come into fruition. It’s not changing the walk that I am on,” she explained.
The next step in fulfilling that dream is taking another turn behind the camera. She’s looking forward to telling another powerful story soon.
“I do have a directing project that is really big! But I don’t know if I can speak about it yet, as I have not signed on the dotted line! But oh my God, am I excited about it!”
We are too, sis.
