Gentrification has been growing at exponential rates in Brooklyn, and the recent rental listing of Notorious B.I.G’s childhood apartment is a prime example of this.
According to the New York Post, the apartment that Biggie himself dubbed a “one-room shack” in his hit “Juicy” can be rented for a whopping $4000 a month.
The 972-square-foot apartment at 226 St. James Place in the Clinton Hill neighborhood has refurbished new floors, appliances, and countertops, according to the listing for the apartment.
“It’s so calm and residential now. It’s hard to imagine it’s the same street that he sang about with all the drugs and gunfire. It couldn’t be more different,” a real estate agent told the New York Post.
He added, “The neighborhood is all hipsters and millennials. People in finance and tech people.”
The apartment is located on the new “Christopher ‘Notorious B.I.G.’ Wallace Way,” which had a star-studded renaming ceremony earlier this month.
