Tennis star and Black girl goal-setter Serena Williams made the world swoon when she announced her pregnancy a few months ago. Now that her due date is quickly approaching, everyone’s weighing in on what the gender of the baby will be.
Though her and her fiancé, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, have decided to not discover the sex of the baby until the day they arrive, they both have an awesome reason as to why they have a hunch that it just might be a baby girl.
“Obviously, she won the Australian Open while pregnant,” Ohanian began during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “She remarked that she feels like it has to be a girl because everything that little baby went through and handled like a champ, only a woman could be strong enough to take on.”
Going on to gush about his future wife and all the strength that she herself possess, Ohanian told the host that he recognizes the many sacrifices that women have to make— he also admits to never picking up a tennis racket before and turning down lessons from Williams.
“This is our first child,” he said. “If anything, though, it really just reinforced how just amazing and strong and powerful and awesome women are and how useless we are during this whole thing. I’m like, ‘I can make you a grilled cheese.’ Does this help? We’re worthless.”
Although the couple has a little time to wait until they can confirm if their hunches are correct, we’re sure that they’ll be happy with whatever gender their child turns out to be.
