Serena Williams left some fans angry when she said that giving birth would make her a “real woman.”
“I have so much respect for so many women [for giving birth],” Williams told Stellar magazine. “I am about to be a real woman now, you know? It’s going to be something incredibly impressive to go through.”
Some immediately took offense to her words, saying that many women choose not to have children while others cannot have children at all.
But there was also pushback to the backlash, with some saying that she has a right to her opinion of her own pregnancy.
The tennis champ is expecting her first child with fiancé and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in September.
