While many believed Serena Williams‘ two-month-old daughter Alexis Olympia scored her first major TV ad, it’s been revealed that the baby girl in the commercial is not actually her.
The tennis legend, 36, starred in a new ad for Gatorade, titled “Sisters in Sweat,” that showed Williams cradling a baby girl while expressing encouraging words of advice for women of all ages to stay in sports.
“Baby girl, I won’t mind if you play tennis badly. I won’t mind if you choose to never pick up a racket. But I beg you, in this game of life, please keep playing no matter what,” she said in the nearly two-minute clip.
However, according to AdAge, Gatorade hired a body double to play Williams’ only child.
“While Serena intended to have Olympia make her screen debut as part of this film, her daughter was under the weather and unable to be on set, but the sentiment remains the same,” a Gatorade spokeswoman said in a statement.
But fans and followers have seen lots of social media videos of Alexis Olympia thanks to her mother and father Alexis Ohanian, who wed on Thursday in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The proud parents have documented their daughter’s life since her birth on Sept. 1, even announcing her birth to the world in a video montage on YouTube.
From her introduction on Instagram to her first ride on a private plane and most recently her role in the wedding, Alexis Olympia has been the star of her famous parents’ social media posts. (She even has her own Instagram and Twitter accounts!)
Williams isn’t the only celebrity and influencer to star in the commercial. ActressAllison Williams, Teen Vogue Editor-in-Chief Elaine Welteroth, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki and Refinery29 co-founder Piera Gelardi close out the ad with photos of themselves from their days playing sports.
