Tennis champion Serena Williams may be expecting her first child, but she is already planning her return to the court.
Williams shows off her baby bump on the August 2017 cover of Vanity Fair, and reveals to the magazine that she plans to be back on the court by January 2018. Williams, who is engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, has already won a record 23 Grand Slam titles, but she’s not ready for her reign to end.
“I don’t think my story is over yet,” she told Vanity Fair
Vanity Fair’s cover story shares an in-depth look at Williams’ and Ohanian’s love story. You’ll learn more about how they met (at the Cavalieri hotel in Rome in May 2015), their first date (a six-hour excursion around Paris!), the proposal (at the same Rome hotel where they met a year and a half earlier) and both of their reactions to discovering that Serena was pregnant with their first child.
Williams admits to Vanity Fair that she isn’t totally ready to be a mom quite yet. “I don’t know what to do with a baby. I have nothing. . . .I’ve done absolutely nothing for the baby room.”
She also reveals that she’s enjoying her last few months before she becomes a wife. “I’m trying to enjoy the little freedom I have left.”
Williams first announced her pregnancy on Snapchat in April. Shortly after, it was revealed that the tennis star was actually pregnant when she won the Australian Open in January. Williams and Ohanian got engaged in December 2016, and are planning to get married in the fall.
The couple’s first baby is due to arrive later this summer.
