On Tuesday, designer Mychael Knight passed away. Known for his time on Project Runway, the 39-year-old talent created elegant yet youthful womenswear for everyday women and celebrities. One of his close celebrity clients was actress, Sherri Shepherd who shared her reaction with us via email.
“Through tears I write this… my heart is pounding with sadness,” Shepherd told ESSENCE. “Mychael was like my little brother —he had a beautiful spirit and he made whomever he styled feel like a million bucks. I always left Mychael feeling like a princess. He knew how to bring out the best in my features and showed me how to shimmy and suck it in while simultaneously smiling.”
The former The View co-host also revealed that her and Knight were working on an entire fashion line together.
“He and I were collaborating on a clothing line for the curvy women and we had come up with some great ideas. I am heartbroken that his dreams were cut short. Mychael had a wonderful sense of humor and would pinch me mercilessly when I wasn’t red carpet ready.”
More than anything Shepherd is sadden by the loss and thinking of his loved ones during this difficult time.
“I started out as his client but we became great friends. I know he’s in heaven updating the angels’ looks. I can see him telling Jesus that His wings are so yesterday are maybe [wear] coral instead of all white!”
