Simone Biles is making history again!
While competing at the 2019 US Gymnastics Championships in Kansas City, Missouri on Friday, the 22-year-old became the first gymnast to ever attempt and land a double-twisting, double somersault dismount off the balance beam.
Earlier that day, she was also the first woman to attempt a triple-twisting, double back in competition on the floor exercise. But she ended up coming up short, the Olympic Channel reports.
But despite the five-time Olympic medalist and 14-time world champion making history, she said that she can’t help but focus on being the best.
“As soon as I fell on floor, I was like, ‘That’s it. I’m scratching the meet. I’m walking off the floor,’” she said afterward. “But I’m happy with the way I ended the meet.”
“I feel like I compete for perfection,” she said, “so whenever I don’t do that, it really irritates me.”
Biles is currently leading at the two-day competition, where she is expected to win her sixth US title on Sunday. According to CNN, no woman has done that since Clara Schroth Lomady in 1952.
Go Simone!
