A bit of love, peace and soul will be making its way to Broadway come 2021.
The “Soul Train” has officially found it’s conductor in Questlove, and it’s first stop is New York City!
In celebration of the series’ 50th anniversary, Questlove will co-executive produce the upcoming Broadway musical based on the iconic music variety program created by Don Cornelius that aired from 1971 to 2006. The play will trace the personal story of Soul Train host and creator Don Cornelius, according to Deadline.
Questlove made the announcement today via his Instagram page. “Tryna make dreams come true every day of my life,” he shared. “Y’all know I bleed @soultrain so this move should surprise none of y’all.”
He continued, “Extremely proud to be part of this awesome team and a part of hisherstory.”
Playwright Dominique Morisseau, director Kamilah Forbes and choreographer Camille A. Brown will all participate in the project, making it the first Broadway musical to have a creative team led by solely by African-American women. Questlove will executive produce alongside Cornelius’ son Tony, CSI creator Anthony E. Zuiker and Live Nation Urban president Shawn Gee.
