Here's Every Black Actor Nominated For A 2020 Screen Actors Guild Award

The nominees for the Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced Wednesday morning, and Black Hollywood’s favorites were rewarded.

For films, Jamie Foxx’s turn in Just Mercy received a nod while Lupita Nyong’o was nominated for her scary portrayal in Us.

On the small screen, Jharrel Jerome received his nod, deservedly so, for his role in Netflix’s When They See Us, while Mahershala Ali earned a nod for the latest season of True Detective.

Sadly, This Is Us failed to earn an ensemble nod while Black Twitter’s favorite, HBO’s Watchmen along with its stars Regina King and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, didn’t score nominations for any of the big categories. Eddie Murphy, who was dynamic in his portrayal of Blaxploitation star Rudy Ray Moore, also failed to get a nod for Dolemite Is My Name.

Black Panther’s Danai Gurira along with Superstore actress America Ferrera had the pleasure of announcing the nominees in Los Angeles’ Pacific Design Center. Here are the other Black actors whose names they said earned a nod by the union:

Mahershala Ali

Mahershala Ali is a Grade A actor so it comes as no surprise that his turn in HBO’s True Detective earned him a nod in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries category.

Jharrel Jerome

Jharrel Jerome’s stirring performance as Korey Wise in Netflix’s When They See Us scored him a nod in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries. He goes up against Ali.

Cynthia Erivo

The British actress and ESSENCE cover girl received a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role thanks to her role in the biopic, Harriet.

Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita Nyong’o scared just about everyone in her portrayal of Red in Jordan Peele’s This Is Us. The role earned her a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role. She goes head-to-head with Erivo.

Jamie Foxx

Jamie Foxx’s portrayal of a man wrongfully imprisoned of murder earned him a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role. The actor reacted to the good news by saying in a statement, “I am humbled to be in the company of the other legends in this category. I am so grateful for this recognition from my peers in the SAG community. Just Mercy is one of the most life fulfilling films I have had the pleasure to work on. I am indebted to Michael B. Jordan, our director, Destin Daniel Cretton, Warner Bros., our producer, Gil Netter and the entire creative team. And of course – Bryan Stevenson who is our hero- fighting for justice every single day.”

Sterling K. Brown

He’s not slowing down! Sterling K. Brown received even more praise—a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series—for his role as Randall Pierce in the NBC hit series, This Is Us.
