Fans have no chill when they see Lil Jon out and about and the rapper-producer is a bit tired. The Atlanta rapper and producer said a common misconception about him is that he’s turned up all the time.
“People think I’m screaming all the time,” he told ESSENCE. “It’s like, no, I’m in the airport at 8:00 a.m., I’m not gonna scream back at you, ‘Yeah!’ Say good morning and keep it moving.”
“It happens a lot,” Lil Jon added. “People that hang out with me for the first time are like, ‘Wow, how do you deal with that?’ and I’m like, ‘You learn to kind of ignore it or just zone it out.’ But people get annoyed very quickly when they hang out with me and experience it. They’re like, ‘Oh my God, that’s so annoying.'”
One thing you could do when you see Lil Jon—instead of shouting “Yeah!”—is ask about the schools he’s built in Ghana. The rapper, who’s partnered with Hotels.com for their recent ad campaign, calls it one of the most proudest moments in his career.
“The community helped build the school, so they take a lot of pride in what they have,” he said. “It taught me to be thankful for whatever I have because that’s how these people are. They’re so thankful for whatever they have and they were thankful that they could get something like that—a new school in their community.”
