Is Summer Walker done with the music industry?! (We hope not!)
The “Body” singer, who is currently on tour to support her acclaimed debut album Over It, took to Instagram Sunday to say that she planned to leave music after her tour.
“I’ve decided y’all don’t deserve me lol. I knew from day one I was [too] real for this shit,” Walker said in the post’s caption. “Y’all can have the music & ima just head out. F*** the interviews, photo shoots, videos, & really the shows too. I’ll finish this tour out tho.”
It’s not clear how serious Walker is about leaving music behind, especially with the success of her debut album.
The project—featuring 18 songs, and a host of our favorite artists, including Jhene Aiko, Usher, and Bryson Tiller—covers the complexities around unrequited love, and the beauty of a budding romance.
“I’m just a regular person, nothing more. People got this fame shit fucked up,” she wrote. “Everyday/everything isn’t a miss America bad bitch contest, & I don’t feel the need to put others down to stay relevant. people really just DISCONNECTED.”
Walker ended her rant with some advice: “That same amount of time you take to chase the ‘bag,’ try putting that same amount of energy into patience, acceptance, understanding, self awareness, self love…”
