Tamar Braxton took fans down memory lane recently after discovering some old photos at her parents’ house.
While Braxton could have just captioned the old image #TBT, she used the throwback moment to discuss her battle with body dysmorphia and encourage her fans to love themselves.
“There is nothing like going to your Parents house and finding old 1996 HORRIBLE pictures of yourself!! Can you believe I thought I was FAT??!?” Braxton wrote on Instagram. “It’s so funny how you see yourself then, and how it parallels to now.”
“I STILL struggle with body dysmorphia to THIS DAY all because a record executive told me I was too fat at 11 to be more of a ‘commercial’ artist,” the Grammy-nominated singer confessed.
After admitting she let a record executive get in her head and her family let network execs convince them they were “too boring” for television, which led to unnecessary drama, Braxton offered words of encouragement for those dealing with negative people in their lives.
“People will try to turn you into whatever they want you to be for their benefit,” the singer continued. “When are you going to be who YOU truly are for your OWN benefit?”
“We put ourselves through hell to be however someone else sees’s us…how about if you are going to work at something,” she added. “WORK ON YOU FOR YOU and have the faith that GOD made you this way on purpose!”
Now that’s we call some solid advice.
