The Chi star Jason Mitchell has been dropped from Lena Waithe’s Showtime series following allegations of sexual misconduct, according to reports.
Mitchell has also been dropped by his agent and an upcoming lead role in Netflix’s western flick, Desperado.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mitchell’s co-star Tiffany Boone, who had previously worked opposite the actor in 2015’s Straight Outta Compton in which he played late rapper Eazy-E, complained about his conduct on the set of The Chi.
Despite multiple complaints of harassment, it had allegedly become so bad on The Chi set that Boone’s fiancé, Dear White People actor Marque Richardson, had to come on set when she shot scenes with Mitchell.
Boone ultimately told Fox 21, which produces The Chi, that she would no longer work with Mitchell.
Other actresses have also reportedly come forward to file complaints against the actor, including Mitchell’s co-stars in Desperado.
Netflix allegedly chose to drop Mitchell from Desperado before they started filming after producers received “specific information, which was investigated immediately and…dealt with as quickly as possible,” THR reports.
Mitchell has yet to comment on the allegations. Showtime, Netflix and Fox 21 have declined to comment. Waithe, who created the series, has also yet to comment.
