Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson almost hosted this year’s Oscars.
Following the Kevin Hart controversy, the Academy has opted to go hostless this year but Johnson says he was actually the first choice to host the event.
Responding to a fan on Twitter, Johnson said, “Ah mahalo dude, I was their first choice to host this year, and my goal was to make it the most fun and entertaining Oscars ever. We all tried hard, but couldn’t make it work since I’m shooting Jumanji. Academy and I were super bummed but maybe one day down the road.”

We wonder what The Rock would have cooked up.
Hart pulled out of hosting the event earlier this year after refusing to apologize for resurfaced homophobic tweets.
Reports suggest that filling the position became difficult and instead the Academy will highlight celebrities presenting at the awards.
