“As women as always put others before ourselves,” says actress Tika Sumpter. “But it’s important to take time out for yourself. When you feel better, you can better provide and be there for others, that’s my biggest advice for young ladies.”
In taking care of herself, the 33-year-old actress wore weaves for several years before trimming her hair and deciding to wear it natural. “Once I trained it, it was much easier [to manage],” she says. “I blow it out once a week and when I’m on set I wear clip-ins.”
Aside from managing her hair with the help of her hairstylist Annagjid Kee Taylor (or “Kee-Kee”, as Sumpter lovingly calls her), the actress is busy portraying Candace Young, a main character on the new season of Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots. When asked about what to expect on the new season, Sumpter replies: drama and chaos! “Candace is more vulnerable this season, and you’ll learn more of her back story and why she’s so angry,” she said.
Whether on or off camera, the natural-haired beauty admits to using the following prodcuts to this season to maintain her appearance.
1. Biotin
“I just started taking Biotin a month ago, but so far my hair is thicker!”
2. Loreal EverCrème Sulfate-Free Moisture System Nourishing Shampoo
“I have natural hair, and sulfate-free shampoos make my hair easier to comb through it,” she says. “I dont even blow it out—it’s so soft and un-tangled!”
3. Clarins Skin Care System
“I wear so much makeup [on set] my skin gets crazy,” she says. “In between my monthly facials, I use this system to keep my skin healthy.”
