Some say that the family that prays together stays together. But for the Knowles clan, texting on smartphones is one way they’re staying connected.
Tina Knowles Lawson revealed that she has a long-running group chat with daughters Beyoncé and Solange, as well as her niece Angie Beyincé and Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland.
During a recent interview on Maria Shriver’s Meaningful Conversations podcast, the beloved matriarch shared how she stays connected to her famous family.
“It’s like I have four girls. And it’s so funny because we are always on group chats,” Knowles Lawson explained. “And we’ll be on a group chat for two hours, just going back and forth and laughing about something or being sad about something.”
Sadness fell upon the family with the recent murder of rapper and activist Nipsey Hussle–who had a close ties to the family. He was 33.
“He’s on my son-in-law’s label and my son-in-law [Jay-Z] loved him so much,” she shared.
“He was such a great guy that the whole community is sad, but it’s really comforting to be able to be on that group chat and talk about it,” she continued. “It’s like counseling.”
On Instagram, both Knowles and Beyoncé shared a heartfelt message accompanied with a photo of Hussle.
“This is such a tragedy. I have learned so much about this young man since last night,” Knowles wrote in her caption. “He was such a gift to us and his community.”
For her part, Bey wrote: “I’m praying with every ounce of my heart for your family. Rest In Peace, Nipsey.”
The slain rapper will be remembered at a memorial service in Los Angeles’ Staples Center on Thursday.
