Beyoncé is close to welcoming two new members to the family, and her mother Tina Lawson can’t help but praise her daughter’s parenting skills.
Lawson, 63, spoke about the singer’s pregnancy at the Inaugural Wearable Art Gala in Los Angeles on Saturday, opening up about what it feels like to be a grandmother again.
“I’m so excited,” she told reporters. “I can’t wait.”
Lawson and her husband Richard also praised Beyoncé and Jay Z, who already share 5-year-old daughter Blue Ivy, as “incredible parents.”
“She’s a really good mom,” said Lawson. “Really patient and kind.”
Lawson also said that she’s happy to see her daughter handing down the same important messages she tried to instill in her to the next generation of their family.

“Teaching them that what is on the inside counts more than what’s on the outside,” she said. “I see her passing it on, and it makes me really proud because that was my biggest lesson.”
Since Beyoncé and her husband announced in February that they were expecting twins, the BeyHive has been buzzing about the sex of the babies — but even Lawson says she’s in the dark.
“I would be happy with whatever God gives me,” Lawson recently told Extra’s Mario Lopez, and shared that she has “no idea” if the pregnant singer will be boys, girls or one of each.
Also during her Extra interview, Lawson revealed she’s currently living in Los Angeles while the parents-to-be are in nesting mode.
“She is surrounded by her family and is taking it easy,” a source previously told PEOPLE exclusively about the Grammy winner. “She doesn’t venture out very much, but seems happy going for an occasional lunch or taking [Blue Ivy] to school.”
The couple is also busy overseeing renovations of their Holmby Hills rental home and have hired decorators for the twins’ nurseries.
“They plan on raising their twins in Los Angeles,” says the source about the previously Manhattan-based pair, who recently vacationed in Bora Bora. “It’s their home base now, and this is where Blue goes to preschool. They’re all very happy in L.A.”
