Traces Ellis Ross is a proud daughter.
The “Blackish” actress witnessed her mother, the legendary Diana Ross, receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Tuesday, the nation’s highest civilian honor.
“Here is my sweet and gorgeous mama in front of Jackie Kennedy painting in the @WhiteHouse. It was an exciting day yesterday,” Tracee Ellis Ross said of her mother in an instagram post.
“My mom along with 20 others received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which President @BarackObama said ‘is not just our nation’s highest civilian honor – it’s a tribute to the idea that all of us, no matter where we come from, have the opportunity to change this country for the better.’ I felt proud and moved.”
This was President Obama’s final honor ceremony and Ross received her honor alongside the Cicely Tyson, Diana Ross, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Michael Jordan.

The honor is presented to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.
“Along with her honey voice and soulful sensibility, Diana exuded glamour and grace and filled stages that help to shape the sound of Motown,” the president said when presenting Ross with her medal. “Today, from the hip-hop that samples her, to the young singers who have been inspired by her, to the audiences that still cannot get enough of her, Diana’ Ross’s influence is as inescapable as ever.”
