A little more than year after Trayvon Martin’s shooting death in Sanford, Florida, Martin’s parents have settled a wrong death claim, reports the Orlando Sentinel.
Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin filed a wrongful death suit against the homeowner’s association of the neighborhood in which their son was killed at the hands of George Zimmerman. Although the amount was blacked out on the recently released official documents filed in the Seminole County Courthouse, the amount is believed to be at least $1 million.
Martin’s lawyer, Benjamin Crump, had no comment on the settlement amount.
It’s unclear who will be paying Martin’s parents in the settlement—that information was also blacked out on the court documents. The defense attorney, Mark O’Mara, said the two parties agreed to settle months ago despite having talks break down in the past.
“It is understood and agreed that the payment made herein on behalf of the releasing parties; but instead of the monies being paid hereunder is consideration for avoiding litigation as well as to protect and secure the good name and good will of the released parties,” read the settlement.
Under condition of accepting the money, Martin’s parents are agreeing to drop their wrongful death claims.
Zimmerman faces second degree murder charges. His trial is set to begin June 10.
