New Orleans native Trombone Shorty has goodies of his own. But on Sunday night at the ESSENCE Festival, his brightest moments came courtesy of others. The musician and his band covered several classics.
Kool and the Gang’s “Get Down It” got some burn. Then came C-Murder’s “Down for my Niggas.” The Big Tymers’ “Get Your Roll On” followed. Even Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” got love.
And shout out to fellow native Mystikal for coming out to do “Shake It Fast.” The rapper got hips wagging while horns blared.
