The White House has already made it known that they were getting involved with rapper A$AP Rocky’s case in Sweden, but now President Donald Trump has announced he is personally working to free him.
“I will be calling the very talented Prime Minister of Sweden to see what we can do about helping A$AP Rocky,” Trump tweeted on Friday.
The president added that he had just spoken with Kanye West, who has been working behind-the-scenes with his wife Kim Kardashian to free the rapper.
“So many people would like to see this quickly resolved!” Trump said.
On Saturday, Trump shared an update that he had spoken to Sweden’s prime minister.
Rocky was arrested earlier this month after he and his team allegedly assaulted two men in Stockholm. The altercation between the two men and the rapper allegedly started over a pair of broken headphones.
While rumors have swirled that the rapper is being held in “inhumane conditions,” a spokesperson for the prison where Rocky is being held told Radio 1 Newsbeat that while he’s unable to comment on individual prisoners, those awaiting trial are served three meals a day and a professional cleaning service “immediately sanitizes” all areas after use.
The spokesperson continued: “This is done for the sake of the prisoners as well as for our staff, for them to have decent working conditions.”
Kardashian thanked Trump, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner via Twitter, along with “everyone involved with the efforts to Free ASAP Rocky & his two friends.”
“Your commitment to justice reform is so appreciated,” she wrote on Thursday.
