On Thursday, rapper Tyga stopped by The Breakfast Club, where the show’s hosts immediately dived in to discuss his relationship with Kylie Jenner.
Tyga began dating Jenner back in 2014, shortly after splitting from then fianceé Blac Chyna. The pair’s relationship sparked controversy as it was rumored the two had began dating when Jenner was just 16, the legal age of consent in California is 18.
Host Charlamagne Tha God, never one to bite his tongue, didn’t hesitate to ask Tyga about the accusations of pedophilia lobbed against him by critics. However, the rapper’s answer quickly veered into R. Kelly territory when he stated, “I’m always ahead of the curve. I’m just always ahead of the curve.”
Pressed further, Tyga added, “I knew she had a lot of potential. I felt like I was put in that position to kind of help her.”
Tyga’s answers feel a bit reminiscent of the answer R. Kelly gave back in 2008, pausing and flubbing much like the rapper, when journalist Touré asked the “I Believe I Can Fly” singer if he liked teenage girls, “When you say teenage, how old are we talking?”
Tyga’s response also echo’s Kanye West’s remarks from a 2015 interview with The Breakfast Club, where the “Famous” rapper says, “I think he [Tyga] got in early. I think he was smart.”
The rapper went on to say that hooking up with Jenner and Blac Chyna, the mother of his 4-year-old son King Cairo, helped the two women “glo up.”
And, while he believes he helped both women glo up, the rapper added that Jenner did help change his image with middle America. “She definitely helped me…women and middle America. There are definitely more women at my shows and younger girls and stuff.”
There you have it. Tyga groomed Kylie, elevated Blac Chyna and somehow rose to B-level fame with the help of the Kardashians.
