It appears Tyrese is upset at The Rock for reportedly holding up the next installment of The Fast and the Furious franchise by signing up for a spin-off with Jason Statham focusing on their characters, Hobbs (Johnson) and Shaw (Statham). This week, Tyrese — who plays Roman Pearce in the franchise — has been firing off Instagram posts calling out The Rock for breaking up “the family.”
There’s this post, which at first glance looks like a joyous announcement for the next franchise’s film. But it isn’t. Tyrese captioned the image, “Congratulations to @TheRock and your brother in law aka 7 bucks producing partner @hhgarcia41for making the fast and the furious franchise about YOU – And like you, DJ even if they call I will not be deleting this post – Gn folks see you in 2020 April #FastFamily right? Nah….. it’s about #TeamDewayne.”
After posting two more images, one of which was a repost from Vin Diesel, Tyrese went back to his day job. But, not without subtly shading The Rock once again.
For a while things were quiet. However, on Tuesday, Tyrese shared an old video of The Rock trashing his 2015 album, Black Rose.
The Rock appears to laugh at the end, but it’s unclear if he’s joking or actually laughing at Tyrese.
Tyrese has since told TMZ that he’s not mad about the spin-off, he just wishes it was being released at a different time.
For his part, The Rock has remained pretty silent. Although, some believe that he took a little shot at Tyrese when celebrating the Hobbs and Shaw spin-off by including the hashtag #CandyAssesNeedNotApply under a clip on Instagram.
Spin-offs are common in Hollywood and it’s unsurprising that The Fast and the Furious would spawn one of its own. The franchise has raked in billions world wide, so it’s a pretty smart move for producers to try to recreate that success with a new film. Who can blame The Rock for signing on?
In any case, we’ll be watching for more internet drama from this newest Hollywood beef.
