In 2012, Rihanna debuted a pixie cut that fans immediately ran to their stylists to copy.
The “Needed Me” singer had ditched her bob and returned to a shorter ‘do with hair stylist Ursula Stephen crafting the bold style.
Stephen has worked as Rihanna’s stylist for years, so you have her to thank for many of the singer’s jawdropping styles. Speaking to ESSENCE, the celebrity stylist dished on how Rihanna’s epic pixie cut came to be.
“So, the pixie kinda happened because I got bored and Rihanna was really tired of the bob a lot sooner than people know,” Stephen said. “She was on me about getting rid of it and I was like ‘You can’t, you can’t. Wait a little bit.’”
Stephen admits that she was bored with the ‘do too and on a whim decided that it was time for a cut.
“I was so over doing the bob and she’s already been asking to chop it all off. So, I get to her room and I’m like, ‘You know what? I think I’m going to cut your hair today.’ I’m just like ‘I don’t feel like doing that stupid bob anymore, I’m over it.’ And, I have the smallest size of relaxer and when you chop your hair off you got to at least make sure the sides and back are sleek. I made it work. And, that cut, that initial cut, was really just me being bored and her being down.”
