Shortly after Beyoncé and Jay-Z finished reminding us why they’re the first family of music at the Global Citizen Festival in South Africa last weekend, the couple had another cause to celebrate.
Jay-Z feted his 49th birthday while still on the continent, and Queen Bey led party attendees in a sing-along of “Happy Birthday” to her husband as he laughed and smiled nearby.
South African DJ Black Coffee posted a video on Instagram of the touching moment.
Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Lawson who has become an Instagram sensation in her own right, used the occasion to share her own love and respect for her son-in-law.
She shared a snap of him backstage at the festival with a heartwarming caption, praising his growth as a husband and father.
“A very Happy Birthday to my amazingly talented, super smart, gracious, classy, filled with swag son-in-law,” she wrote.
“I have witnessed your loyalty to all of your friends, some from childhood if only we all could be so supportive of our friends and share a mutual love and respect for each other like you,” she continued referencing the life-long friendships he has immortalized through his music.
“You have done so much for our culture, thank you for that! I could not be more happy to have you in my family and could not be more happy to be in yours,” Mama Tina concluded.
