Days after Wendy Williams returned to her purple chair, after being off the air for nearly two months, the talk show host is sharing more about her health issues: she’s been taking care of her sobriety.
On Tuesday’s episode of The Wendy Williams Show, the daytime talk show host revealed that she’s been getting treatment for past issues with cocaine.
“I have been living in a sober house,” she tearfully told the studio audience.
“I’ve had a struggle with cocaine in the past. I never went to a place to get treatment,” Williams continued. “There are people in your family, it might be you…I want you to know more of the story.”
Williams added that she returns to the facility after work, and even in between doing pilates, errands and meetings.
“They don’t know I’m Wendy. They don’t care I’m Wendy. It’s the brothers and sisters caught up in the struggle. It’s been really interesting; this ride,” she said. “After I finish my appointments…I am driven by my 24-hour sober coach back to a home that I live in the Tri-State with a bunch of smelly boys who have become my family.”
Williams continued, “We talk and read and talk and read and then I get bored with them. Doors locked by 10 p.m., lights out by 10 p.m., so I go to my room and stare at the ceiling and fall asleep to come here and see you. So that is my truth.”
The talk show host said only her husband, Kevin, knew about her living in a sober house. “Not my parents, nobody. Nobody knew because I look so glamorous out here,” she explained.
Williams had previously shared she had taken a break from her show, starting back in January, due to issues with Graves’ Disease. She returned to The Wendy Williams Show back on March 4 to a standing ovation, telling the audience, “Thank you so much for waiting for us.”
