There are so many styling options when it comes to natural hair. It can be braided, straightened, curled or fashioned into a lush twist out. Just ask actress Yara Shahidi, who is quickly becoming one of our favorite hair chameleons to follow on Instagram.
This week, the Blackish star previewed a sleek and totally attainable bantu do for followers (including us!) to gawk over.
“This is how we do it,” she wrote as stylist Sparkle gathered her locks into the edgy, protective style.
The transformation happens pretty fast, so here’s a quick refresher on how to create bantu knots or a twist-out at home:
1. Start by sectioning off your hair.
2. Moisturize your scalp to avoid breakage.
3. Loop an elastic band around the sectioned off hair.
4. Twist the sectioned off hair using the two-strand twist method.
5.Twist the completed plait into a Bantu knot and repeat steps 1 through 5.
For best results, unravel the Bantu knots after they have had time to set. 8 to 10 hours is ideal.
