Young and the Restless star Kristoff St. John had checked himself into the hospital for depression, and had been released just days before his death, according to a new report.
TMZ reports that St. John sought treatment for his depression, which was partly linked to his son Julian’s suicide in 2014.
Julian had been diagnosed with depression when he was a child and had grappled with schizophrenia since he was 18.
The actor’s body was found in his San Fernando Valley home after a friend went to check on him. Paramedics later announced him dead at the scene. He was 52.
Many fans of the long-running daytime television soap have grown up with St. John, who has played Neil Winter since 1991. The role earned him a number of nominations and awards.
St. John’s fiancee, Kseniya Mikhaleva, shared her grief in an Instagram post.
“How did it happen??? How??? Why did you leave so early???? and left me all alone,” she said in a now-deleted post.
According to Entertainment Tonight, the couple had been engaged since last fall.
A cause of death has yet to be released.
